PCGS "GENUINE" - IDEAL FOR AT IKES????

Postby robEzerman on Tue Jun 16, 2009 8:07 pm

A seller who sometimes stretches the boundaries of colorful toned Ikes a wee bit and has a history of getting them into PCGS holders today listed a decently colorful Ike which PCGS holdered as "Genuine".

It occurred to me, being as dumb as a post at times and often slow to catch on, that perhaps this new PCGS category would be perfect for borderline or not-ugly AT toned coins, especially modern coins that rarely display flamboyant toning in real life unless encouraged by any of a number of creative accelerants:

EBAY listing: Colorful Toning PCGS GENUINE 1971D Clad Ike Dollar Item number: 150351930654

I think this Ike is probably NT, I have a collection of similar Ikes pulled from original rolls. This one may have received "Genuine" attribution for some other reason. No matter, it's a good opportunity to raise the issue.

Now is the time to cherry Ikes. Lots of fruit still on the trees but don't wait too long. Rob Ezerman

I don't know.....I'm on the fence on this one...NT~vs~AT.... The reverse almost looks like first generation PKOK,....very similar to a beautiful 74-S PCGS MS68 he sold a week ago, (some one got a great deal on that one!)...but the obverse just doesn't even come close to matching. :?

He has another coin in a "Genuine" holder...A Buffalo, #150351929183. At least they are in holders and not sent back in body bags! I just get "nervous" when I see more than one coin from the same seller with a similar "look". However, I guess they could all be from the same collection and were thus, stored in the same conditions for a long period
of time.

This seller mainly concentrates on toned coins, so that is probably what he looks for when he travels to shows. He has been selling for a long time and has a good reputation. I have done transactions with him over the years and have always been satisfied. :)

Happy Hunting!
