<<Herb, are the incuse details you see on the 72 Type 1 off the field? Rob>>

My gosh, I am not sure. Are the earth's oceans raided above the field or not? Looking at the 9 o'clock position on both the FEV and T 1, the field seems to be level with and merging with the ocean. Bill may have to take ocean soundings.

Of course, the angry eagle brow line is in the middle of a raised (on the coin) area.

Herb, "...ocean soundings...", that's funny!

Wexler asserts that the ocean is at field level or above in the various reverse designs, can't remember, no time to look up, but on the low relief reverses with heavy die abrasions there can be some or much abrading that continues onto the oceans but only on maybe 5 - 10% of the time. I think, therefore, that the oceans are very close to field level here but not flat with the fields.

Have not seen an FEV with visible reverse die abrasions (nor typical clash images) but my guess, and think yours also, is the oceans are a bit higher than field as would be the case with Ike proofs in order to allow frosting on the oceans to survive die field polishing. Rob
Now is the time to cherry Ikes. Lots of fruit still on the trees but don't wait too long. Rob Ezerman
